Our impressions

Donor Nor decided to become a donor after seeing, through his medical studies, how difficult it can be for people who struggle to have a child, and he wanted to help others get that same chance. Those close to him describe him as optimistic, insightful, and direct. He is also described by others as ambitious and full of energy, someone who's easy to relax with and always willing to pitch in.

Family means everything to him. Even though he lives far from home, he talks to his parents every week and stays closely connected with his extended family and cousins. Beyond medicine, Nor is a genuinely interesting character. He is a rock climber, choir singer, sourdough baker, and former military medic with dreams of one day sailing around the world.

Hobbies and interests

Quels sports aimez-vous pratiquer ?
For the past year and a half, I’ve been rock climbing, and it suits me perfectly since I have to use my whole body—and my mind—to solve the “problems” on the wall.
I also go to the gym and run a couple of times a week.
I swam for seven years when I was younger, played soccer and bandy (a skating sport) in elementary school, have a year of gymnastics under my belt, and four years of martial arts.
Quels sont vos loisirs ?
I’m really into rock climbing, and sports are probably my biggest hobby. I’ve also started a choir, where I sing a lot, play a little piano and guitar just for fun, and I bake a lot of sourdough bread. I enjoy reading and drawing, and in the summer, my days are filled with water sports like water skiing and windsurfing. In the winter, it’s ice skating and skiing (cross-country and ski touring). I think the reason I have so many hobbies is that I like to explore different sides of myself.

Questions

Que signifie la famille pour vous ?
They mean the most to me. I don't know where I'd be today without them, and even though I live far away, I talk to them every week. My extended family also means a lot to me, and I stay in touch with all my cousins.
Comment vos amis et votre famille vous décriraient-ils ?
I think they would describe me as ambitious, full of energy and plans, loving, and honest. Someone they can relax with, do things with, and who’s easy to laugh with. I’m often asked where my next destination is or what my latest idea is. I also hope I’m described as someone who’s always willing to pitch in.
Quelle est la destination de vos rêves ?
I'd like to travel to South America, preferably to Chile. The natural scenery there is so diverse, and I've heard really good things about both the food and the people there. I'd also love to go back to Japan. I completely fell in love with the culture, nature, and food I experienced there, and I'd love to go back.

Quel est votre plus grand rêve ou objectif dans la vie ?
I have many dreams. My biggest one is to have a life where my job is to make other people’s lives better. I want to have a family and my own space where I can pursue all the interests I want. I want to see the whole world, and I’d love to sail around the globe.
De quoi êtes-vous le plus fier ?
I’m most proud of my work as a volunteer when I traveled around Africa. It was just one year after high school, and it was the first time I had to stand on my own two feet and carry out tasks that had a real impact on future generations. I had to navigate cultural differences, language barriers, and a lack of funds.
At the same time, I was there for others, not just myself, and I learned that goodwill can’t solve every problem, but it can solve many. It was challenging, and I saw many things that left a lasting impression, but I handled it and felt that I was making a genuine difference.
Décrivez certaines de vos plus belles expériences.
I love to travel and meet new people. In my everyday life, I often find myself thinking back to the narrow streets of Japan or Italy, or picturing the beautiful hikes or dives I’ve been on. I think my best memory is from when I worked as a counselor at summer camp, where one of the kids who was being bullied, wasn’t really having a good time and was standing in the corner of the dance floor during our closing disco. I made it my mission to make sure he had fun, and what he was afraid of was looking silly and getting teased even more. In that moment, I saw the best solution as dancing so crazy that he couldn’t look any weirder than me, and it worked. He ended up dancing, and the tears of joy he and his mother shed moved me deeply. It was one of the first times I realized how happy you can become from genuinely doing something good for someone else.
Décrivez certaines de vos plus belles expériences.
Comment décririez-vous votre propre personnalité ?
I’m a family person, and I enjoy spending time with the people I care about. I’m honest, I see the bright side of most things, but I can also take things and conversations
seriously when the situation calls for it. I love being active and have participated in many sports and activities over the years. I also enjoy creative pursuits, such as acting, drawing, and singing a lot.
Quel était le métier de vos rêves quand vous étiez enfant ?
It varied widely, but the most common professions were archaeologist, paleontologist, and engineer.
Que représentent les amitiés pour vous ?
I value friendships highly. Friends mean so much, but after living in another country for three years, only my truly close friends remain. I also think I’ve outgrown the idea that you should have as many friends as possible, and have come to focus on cherishing the friends I do have.
My family means the most to me. I don't know where I'd be today without them.

How nice that you are interested in me. The reason I am a donor is to be able to help those of you who want children. I love children myself, and have worked with such things since I was 15 years old. Human contact is the most important thing we have in life, and children's ability to play and be curious makes them invaluable. I hope you understand that you want one or more, it certainly makes everyday life more colorful. Now it may sound like I have children myself, not yet, but I really want to. Good luck! It will work out :)

Psychologist opinion

Evaluation
The donor chose to donate for several reasons. First, he wanted to test the quality of his sperm and find out his own chances of having children. Now that he knows his sperm is of good quality, he wants to help others have the same opportunity. The financial aspect is also a factor. He has given careful thought to the potential consequences of becoming a donor and has discussed it with friends and his girlfriend.

Intelligence:
In terms of intelligence, the donor performed above average for his age group on the screening test. He can be considered a quick learner in many ways and is likely to be good at understanding complex problems and patterns faster than most people. Others will likely see him as someone with a mind that works quickly and efficiently.

Personality:
In terms of personality, the donor can largely be described as someone without much of a temper. Although he may sometimes worry about things that are personally important to him, the donor will often come across as someone who seems relaxed and comfortable with his own persona. He will be quite good at handling pressure and will not often display pessimism. Quite the opposite, in fact. Others are likely to see the donor as extremely optimistic and positive in his outlook on life. Although he may be calm, he also has intense emotions and is very aware of his own and others’ emotional states. He can be moved by art and beauty, and the donor will likely come across as a sentimental person with a great capacity for social interaction. The donor is rarely worried about looking awkward and isn’t prone to appearing self-conscious. He has reasonable control over his own impulses, but he may have difficulty hiding his emotions. Typically, the emotions he displays will be happy and positive, and some people are likely to describe him as someone who spreads joy. Socially, he seems to enjoy spending time with other people more than spending time alone. He can be sociable and welcoming, but at times he may also be more reserved in new and unfamiliar situations. The donor mentions that he has been practicing taking the initiative in social settings over the past few years, which has helped him become better at not holding back.

It can vary quite a bit depending on the context as to when the donor enjoys being in the spotlight, takes on responsibility, and seeks influence, and when he prefers to stay in the background. Although he apparently enjoys being active and having a busy schedule, the donor is not someone who seeks out adrenaline in any particular way. He’s likely to seek excitement in life by being adventurous and traveling abroad alone without a clear plan, for example. He isn’t necessarily a risk-taker in that sense. When interacting with others, the Donor seems, at first glance, to trust others and believe in their good nature. He can forgive more easily than most people and prefers to be straightforward and easy to understand. It can be difficult for the Donor to hide his feelings from others. At the same time, he is likely to come across as very diplomatic and sympathetic toward people who are less fortunate. He may prefer to help himself before helping others, but there are times when the donor can be self-sacrificing, especially when it comes to close relationships. He does not seem to be enthusiastic about confrontation and prefers good relationships, which may lead him to avoid important and necessary conflicts. However, he can be critical of authority figures, especially if they lack good reasons or a solid basis for their authority.

Values and Interests:
Overall, the Donor comes across as a fundamentally curious person with a creative and expansive imagination, as well as a clear understanding of art and beauty in general. The Donor tends to become restless quickly and will, in most cases, need stimulation through variety. He can be principled and stubborn when it comes to others’ worldviews, but he is also very interested in learning new things and exploring topics philosophically and academically. He is studying medicine for this very reason. The donor likely has an opinion on most topics and will seek out discussions to explore complex problems and abstract concepts.

Work Ethic and Self-Perception:
In terms of work ethic, the donor is likely to be perceived by others as a confident person in general, but certainly also as someone who knows his limits. He is probably not the most organized or tidy person, and he may be selective about which responsibilities he takes on and where he performs at his best. In recent years, he has learned to say no to tasks because he used to get stressed out by trying to please others and saying yes to most requests. The donor may be more laid-back than others when it comes to certain commitments or deadlines, yet very serious about those that are important to him. He seems to have high standards and can be critical when it comes to the areas of life where he wants to excel. He may not often set personal goals or demonstrate great discipline, but when his passions drive him, he can be quite a perfectionist. The donor seems to have the ability to both be deliberate and act on gut instinct.

IQ Test Summary
There is no support for any downside to higher cognitive ability and no evidence for a threshold beyond which greater scores cease to be beneficial. Thus, greater cognitive ability is generally advantageous and virtually never detrimental.
The most important single heritable trait that explains socioeconomic success is the general mental ability as measured by a good IQ test. It is typically more important than any other single heritable trait.
